Online press releases are a fantastic way to get visitors and one-way links to your sites. Anyone can submit a press release for free although you want to make sure that you write content that is ‘newsworthy’. Some examples are: a new product launch, announcement of a new service, awards, a merger or partnership.
Here are some guidelines on how to write your online press release:

Put Your Catchy Headline Here
City, State/Province Month 1, 2008 — The first sentence or ‘lead paragraph’ contains the most important information in 30 words or less. Grab your reader’s attention here and detail what the release is about. Make it interesting!
Try to add a quote here that gives the release a personal touch. ‘Touchy-feelies’ go a long way with journalists (evoke an emotion). Note: Press releases and news stories are boring to without a ‘human interest’.
(A news release keeps sentences and paragraphs short, about three or four lines per paragraph.) These first few paragraphs should cover the “who, what, when, where, why and how” questions. Who cares, why you should care, where one can find it, when it will happen…
This part of the press release can build on the information provided in the lead paragraph. You can also include quotes from key staff, customers or subject matter experts.
Give more details about the news you have to tell, can be about something unique or controversial or about a prominent person, place or thing.
Your second last paragraph summarizes what you have been talking about in the rest of the release.
The last paragraph is something like this: For additional information on (the keyword which is the news and subject of this release with Anchor Text for your Targeted Keywords) contact Your Name or visit YourSite.com (url)
(You’ll also need to include a summary of your release – make it catchy!)

I highly recommend doing some research and reading some press releases first to get ideas on what to write and formatting. Do a search under your keywords and see what comes up: Google News
When you are ready to submit your release go, I recommend you go to PR Web and create an account. This service costs $10, although you can make a donation to get your release ranked more prominently for more publicity or pay for additional services (pictures, text links, more visibility).
You can search under Google for ‘free press release’ and you’ll find lots of places where you can submit but I recommend paying the 10$ because PR Web has great distribution. They also give you amazing statistics.
Like always, you want to make sure that you have your targeted keyword in the title and sprinkled throughout the text plus in the anchor text. This method can be very powerful if you make your release “news-worthy”.
